Tourism Festival Kicked Off with Parade
Shanghai Tourist Festival
2006 was ticked off with the opening
parade of decorative floats and open-air
concerts Saturday night at the Centurial
Square in Nanjing Road, the metropolitan’s
commercial heart (南京路世纪广场),
and along Huaihai Road (淮海路),
the city’s cultural soul. It is
reported by the local media that nearly
half million people joined the carnival
parties on the streets that were rivers
of light with 30 kilometres in total
length.

While Nanjing Road is
more popular with tourists for the
availability of wide range of
commercial products, Huaihai Raod,
with its elegant architecture and
streetscape, are viewed as the Soul
of Shanghai Culture(海派文化 ). It is the place
where the artists and local
fashion-conscious girls like to
frequent.
In the coming three weeks,
a series of festivities will take place
across the city, some are native and
traditional, such as Moon Day
Celebration, and some are imported new
games like Coffee Feast.
