Out
of Gate
After a nine-day session
of Closing
Gate (闭关)
at Shaolin monastery, in the central
Chinese province of Henan, 37 kung
fu stars (功夫之星)
selected globally ended their intensive
meditation last Saturday.
During the session,
Shaolin sent 18 grand masters to tutor
them on the subjects of Buddhist rituals,
martial arts philosophies, Shaolin
history and Shaolin kung fu, which has
turned them into true Shaolin disciples (少林弟子).
Upon Out Gate (出关),
they immediately faced with a challenge
to pass the matrix of 18 iron kung fu
masters from Shaolin, Daoist Wudang (武当),
Daoist Emei (峨嵋),
Daoist Taichi (太极),
Eight Trigrams Palm (八卦掌)
and Southern Fist (南拳).
According to the Shaolin tradition, only
when a novice past the test, he would be
allowed to leave the monastery as a
Shaolin master. This time, of 36, only 9
have successfully fought their way out of
the matrix.
On October 1, China’s
National Day, the nine men will assemble
to battle for the title of global kung fu
master (武林盟主),
and the top three warriors will be
invited to take roles in a new film
Shaolin Martial Monks (少林寺僧兵传奇).
In terms of their martial
arts competence, however, the comments
from the iron masters are not very
encouraging. "They are pretty
average," said Shaolin Assistant
Abbot and Deputy Leader of Shaolin
Martial Monk Troop.
"Today’s kung fu
men are out of their depth when they are
compared to the masters of the
past," observed the inheritor of
Body And Mind Fist (形意拳)
sect. "Most are just kung fu
performers instead of kung fu
masters."

Poise to Be Reincarnated
Chinese state-run media
reports today, that China is going to
reintroduce some traditional teachings
into the classroom, and the boys and
girls as young as primary school students
will learn Confucius classics, ancient
poems, calligraphies and folk crafts.
Maybe in a near future we’ll
see reincarnated philosophers of Han,
poets of Tang, artists of Song and
dramatist of Ming in their flowing gowns
with metre-wide sleeves wandering around
in the land of the modern Middle Kingdom.

Sex Pics
Ancient Chinese artists
were often much bolder than their
European contemporaries, and even those
big names were not afraid of painting one
or two sex pics (春宫图

decline the honour to sign their name on
the painting.
But their boldness pales
before the daringness of a Chongqing
hospital that has those sex pics
published on their official Website. When
some viewers complained, the hospital
replied proudly that they have a duty to
educate public on sex.
Prostitutes might should
call themselves sex therapists, and
brothels ought to be addressed as sex
workshops.
