Scams
to Run
Wild
for 10 days in
China
Scam
warnings were issued by the Chinese
security bureaus on Wednesday regarding
Internet and cell phone hoaxes, because
the statistics show that October is the
time when phishing activities are most
vigourous, particularly during the period
between 11 and 21.
The
home-grown scams are said to have closely
linked to multinational syndicates of
criminal underground. And in recent years
the problems have become so serious that
they start affecting the legitimate
business practices such as consumer
incentive, reward or loyalty programs.
Xinhua
newsagency reported that the Tainjin
postal bureau has so far accumulated
rewards with the total values at 20,000
yuans waiting to be collected by the
lucky winners. Since June this year a
program was set up to randomly reward
customers who paid their phone bills at
post office. But when the operators
contacted the winners by phone, the
messages were often taken as phishing
scams thus ignored.
