A Star Is Rising by Plunging

22 July 2008

In Beijing's Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, there is a young Olympic swimmer hopeful doing his training there. Whenever he makes his presence, he would cause big stir in the pool, with all activities suspended and all eyes turned to his tiny figure. Judging by the admiring expressions of his fans that includes almost everyone in premises, he is undoubtably a sports star.

He atteneds his training progrem regularly. Each time after doing a bit of warm-up exercise by crawling around on the ground chasing his little toys, he gets into a serious mood for action: he spreads his fat and short arms and plunges with splash, literally, into a deep, deep water of .... well, 2 metres from surface to bottom, and swims underwater in just one breath for a long, long distance of ... ar-ha, 3 metres, before lifting his round and fat cheeks above the water surface to draw a big breath ... What a great swimmer!

Regretablly he has not been accepted by Chinese Olympic swim team. One likely reason among possibly many for the exclusion is that he might present a real challenge to Chinese Olympic teams when athletes match into the Stadium - he is yet to be able to walk properly on his own.

Well, you can't blame him - 'cause he was only born 18 months ago.

Baby's humble option: Although Olympics 2008 is hosted in Beijing, it belongs to everyone on earth, those who are Chinese, those who are not Chinese; those who are Beijing residents, those who are not Beijingneses; those who live on upper floors, and those who live in basements.
