A Buddha Statue in Cremated Body 4 July 2008
It is said that after the body of Sakyamuni was cremated, four of his teeth, along with his finger bones, skull and hair have survived the fire and become shelizi (舍利子), the testimony to enlightenment and source of blessing . But apparently the historical Sakyamuni isn't the only one who was able to produce super material with dismond plus quality. Throughout history there are numerous incidents in China in which shelizi were generated from cremated bodies of some highly cultivated Buddhist masters. And one of the most recent occurrences involves a 94-year old Buddhist nun Master Nengkuan (能宽) from the Triple Origion Monastery (三元宫) in the Flowery Fruid Hill (花果山) at Lianyungang (云港市) in Jiangsu Province (江苏连). As it is shown in the photo originally taken by China's official media People's Daily, of 18 shelizi from her cremated body, there is a particular large one that looks uncannily resembling a Buddhisattva Guanyin's image, which is complete with a string of chanting beads by her side.
