How to End up in Marriage

Nowadays, increasing number of married couples end up in divorce to the point that many people do not bother to marry so as to save the pain of a future split. But do you know in China even that may not necessarily spare you a divorce paper.

A few days ago in Chongqing, a brand new mommy and a brand new daddy decided to get their brand new daughter’s only-child certificate (独身子女证) done so they could reap some financial benefits it brings. But once they arrived at the office, they were told that they had already divorced, and the staff there had the divorce numbers on their marriage registration papers to prove it. Forget the one-child benefits – the baby was actually born out of wedlock.

Of course, it didn’t take much time for a reasonably intelligent adult to establish the factor that when the couple registered for their marriage a year ago, a wrong kind of series number was issued that practically turned their marriage papers into divorce papers. The staff on duty at the day fortunately did possess a reasonable intelligence, so the only-child benefits were granted and an earnest advice was also delivered, urging the couple to get their marriage registered ASAP. So after one year living a divorced life together, the couple finally get married.

Anyone in the West who is fed up with a marry-divorce route may like to give a reversed path a try: get divorced first then get married. When you get married first you end up alone; when you get divorced first you end up paired – quite a desirable alternative it is. Will you say it is not?
