As
China faces increasingly severe challenges
from environment and
nature resources, how to develop a recycling
economy becomes the focus of the attention.
In 2006 China outlined a new development
strategy for 2007-2012 called
"Resource-thrifty Society", and
launched a multibillion-dollar effort to cut
pollution through reducing the demand on coal
and oil
energy. An Institute of
Recycling Economy has been established in
Beijing University, and in November 2006, the
International Conference on Recycling Economy
& Sustainable Development was held in
China.

After
years of bear market, the main Chinese stock
indexes approached the record level in 2006,
and now its stock market capitalisation
accounts for 46 per cent of the $2.2 trillion
economy.

The
Compulsory Vehicle Liability Insurance, the

attempt has been made to develop and market

From
December 11, China’s RMB retail business is
open to all foreign fund banks, which fulfils
the last commitment on opening up the banking
sector required by the WTO. Previously,
foreign banks needed the regulator's approval
to offer services involving the Chinese
currency.

In
2006, a system of complete circulation share
was formulated. Under this new split share
structure, from 2007 part of the state-owned
non-tradable share can be put for open
transaction in stock markets. Previously,
state-owned non-tradable share, that
accounted for two thirds of listed companies'
total equity capital, was not allowed to
engage in transactions at all.

Facing
a surging demand for energy and serious
problem in pollution, fresh construction
rules have been introduced to create a new
generation of green buildings. On the first
day of 2007, a landmark renewable energy law
was taken effect, aiming to boost China's
renewable energy capacity to 15 percent by
the year 2020. China has pledged a $180
billion investment to foster in renewable
energy research and development over this
period, including providing low-cost loans
and tax breaks for renewable energy projects.

When Pluto
was kicked out of
the G8 (giant planet 8) summit, and a Chinese
scientist further came along to suggest that
Pluto’s Chinese name should be downgraded
from Ghost King (冥王星) to
Ghost Spirit (冥神星), the
star’s popularity soared and the protests
were heared everywhere in China against the
unfair dismissal.

Conjecture
After
imaging himself being a rubber band and
comparing his experiences on an apple with
that on a donut, Mr Poincaré convinced that
a two dimensional sphere like the apple
possesses a property of simple connectivity.
But he wasn’t quite sure about the donut
which he believed is a three dimentional
sphere. And he cried out for help. Over a
century, many mathematicians heard the cry
and rushed to help but couldn't find a way to
handle the donut. Then one day in 2006 there
was a report from China saying a team of
Chinese scientists has successfully solved
the donut problem.

information service platform" is quite a
catch phrase in China, many people claim they
have or are or will built/building/build one.

software
2006
was the year when China’s cyber space was
plagued by an epidemic of "rogue
software" to the point
that Internet users in eight Chinese cities
were forced to form an anti-rogue coalition
and brought some big software companies to
court. Though the cases were dismissed, it is
believed that Chinese government will soon
release an official standard for identifying
the softwares with a bad attitude.

Chip
A
US-educated Chinese scientist went to
Shanghai claiming he invented an advanced DSP
chip called Han Chip. He was paraded like a
hero, but at the end it turned out to be a
hoax, nor was even his glorious cv genuine,
an embarrassment to pretty much everyone.
